Last night, I dined at the old Ebbitt Grill in downtown Washington, D.C. I was somewhat surprised by the twists and turns of the dinner time conversation. There were five of us, although the conversation was dominated by a lesbian from Washington, D.C. She argued with fervor that all people were on a spectrum. 80% of people were fluid in their gender and sexuality. The extremes consisted of 10% who were straight only and 10% who were gay only.
I sat back and watched as my dinner companions challenged the idea that 80% of humans fell on a fluid spectrum, that it was extreme to be only straight in sexual orientation, that straight people were only straight due to cultural indoctrination.
I just listened and thought about whether the argument rang true for me.
