Thanks for reposting that. Another one I missed, and glad I could read it now. Before reading your piece, I read a short piece from The Free Press by Condoleezza Rice. She didn’t get into all the history, but she brought up some personal experiences (remembering the bombing of that Southern Baptist church where the 4 little girls were killed). However, she also talked about her own success, and her gratitude. I enjoyed her essay.
However, you are always more complex in your take on things, which I very much appreciate. You have been and are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for making me more aware, making me question things, and mostly for allowing me to think.
I read Condoleezza Rice's essay earlier this evening. I cannot hold a candle to her life experiences, including attendance at the Southern Baptist church where the 4 little girls were killed. My little life is not that memorable. Nor do I have any memories of Jim Crow signs. I was born too late for those recollections. However, the more stories we write, and read, about the human condition, the less alone we will all feel.
Thanks for your kind compliment. We have to all think as much as we can before the approach of artificial intelligence/smile. One day, I will write about the possible loss of our ability to think as machines become more and more intelligent.

She’s a remarkable woman. I especially liked what she had to say about school choice recently.
